S2 58 feedback

we enjoyed the different camera angles, they were well varied and edited well together.
the location fits well with the title is was very effective.
it was over all very good, although we believe that the music could have been more tense and dramatic to make more of an atmosphere and o fit better with the genre of a thriller. well done good thriller!

Feedback from final video

From other groups watching the finished edit of our thriller title sequence, they gave many pieces of constructive critiscism.
Generally from the titles we received positive feedback, in that they were appropriate to the conventions of the thriller genre. The dropshadow on the titles was perceived positively, and the variation of their positioning on the shots was also liked.
The music, however received less positive feedback. It was viewed as not entirely appropriate for the genre, as it wasn't as eerie as it could have been. Although this is a valid point, the music does not have to give too much away, and draws the audience in because they are unaware of the narrative. We could have perhaps added in more classical/orchestral music to fit in with the setting of a museum.
The shots were generally viewed as good, as they were varied, however some thought that there were too many points of view, in that sometimes it was from the point of view of the woman, and other times from different angles.
The darkened windows of the setting were thought of as a good idea, in that it showed the time of night that it was, adding to the eerieness, in that night time is generally viewed as more creepy than daytime.
From watching the final video ourselves, we think that it worked out quite well, and that the varied point of view shots made it seem like someone was following the woman and watching her.

Evalutation of the Rough Cut

Il Est Interdit - Evaluation
Having received feedback from the group, we are now aware of more areas of our thriller that need to be improved, on top of what we we had already discussed.

There was not much variation in the lighting, so we may be able to edit the clips to make the contrast between light and dark more subtle. The plot can be viewed as unclear at points, therefore the order in which we have placed the clips could be altered to adhere to this.

To add variety to the font, and exclude repetition, we will change the sizing and placing of it for each separate title. We may also change the actual font to avoid mis-readings, especially as it is written in another language. More transitions could also be added to the titles, to make them more interesting, and to fit in with the music and shots so that they are more inclusive within the sequence. We are also considering extending the length the titles appear for so that the audience will have more time to read them.

We will create an appropriate soundtrack to accompany the shots and titles, alongside the timing etc. For the footsteps, we will add diegetic sound, to add to the atmosphere.

Finally we will check that all shots run smoothly, and that there is a consistency throughout the piece.

Soundtrack

For the soundtrack, we have tested out ideas on garageband, and have come up with a suitable piece. It consists mostly of orchestral pianos, creating an aged feel to the piece alongside the shots we aim to take. It is quite creepy, however slightly hard to decipher what the actual film will be about, therefore adding to the suspense and tension.
Changing the tempo and pitch of different instruments helps to identify to the audience how they should react.. e.g. slow music getting louder and more intense insinuates that something exciting or scary is about to happen.
For our thriller we opted for something quite loud and intense, contrasting against the slow moving pace of the shots. We felt that this could add suspense for the audience, in that they would be aware that something was about to happen, however the scenes would suggest something else, with just someone walking through a museum, until the end where it is left on a cliffhanger, as the audience is unaware of what is hidden behind the forbidden door.
